Minimalist websites and sliders aren’t going to go out of date. Why not spice up your website with a minimalist testimonial slider? On the slider above, you’ll find a nicely placed slider background image. It’s easy to recognize the slider background image. This image stays static while the slides move in front of them. To increase the legibility of the slides, we’ve darkened the background image. This high contrast allows the white texts to be read on each slide.

Layers

The slides have an image layer, which displays the customer’s picture. The images were rounded beforehand. Below each image there’s a text layer. It contains the testimonial text, the customer’s opinion on the product. The text color is white and the size is big, as this is the most important part of the testimonial slider.

At the bottom of the slide there are two heading layers: the top has the customer name. The bottom one, with lighter font color, reads their occupation. This isn’t crucial info, but it might be a great addition. For instance, if you sell products for athletes, you want to show which professionals are using it. This encourages the visitor to buy.

Animations

After the slides have switched, the layers reveal themselves by fading in from the right. This gives a small motion to the slides which makes them more interesting for visitors. You can manage the layer animations in the timeline, here you can copy and paste the animations, change the duration, or set the delay. Also, if you click on the animations, the layer window will open where you can see the other layer animation settings.

Layer animations on the timeline

Layout

The slider has a simple structure: the layers are under each other. The arrows are in the left and right sides, and the bullets are on the bottom which gives a frame to the slider.

Responsive

You can switch slides three ways: by arrows, bullets or dragging/swiping. This makes the slider mobile friendly. On mobile devices it’s more natural and convenient to swipe than to tap small elements. We’ve built each slide using default layers, which makes them behave better on small screens. For example, the texts are smaller on tablet and mobile. For that you can use the text scale option, which is device specific, so you can set different values on each device.

Minimalism and simplicity are the two expressions that surround the Testimonial Carousel slider. Displaying testimonials doesn’t always need fancy stuff. It’s not the effect that will convince your hesitant visitors to be your customers. The slider above isn’t fancy, it uses its minimalist design to convert. It has all testimonial slider requirements: the customer’s words, name, image and occupation. You can see all information the slider displays in a simple but clear way.

The slider has three different navigation options. The two most obvious are the arrows and bullets. The arrows are placed at the left and right side of the slider. They take a minimalistic approach, and their white color is easy to see on the blue background. You can find the bullets at the bottom of the slider. Just like the arrows, they have white color, although with a slight opacity. The active bullet is marked with an empty circle, which means it has only border but not background. The third way to switch slides is to click on them. Each slide has a custom link action to switch to the next or previous slide. This custom navigation makes the WordPress Carousel look and feel special. You can use the layout in your dynamic slide generator to create dynamic testimonials.

Layers

We’ve used the default positioning to build each slide, which makes sure their responsive behavior is great. There’s a company logo at the top, which isn’t required to create a good a testimonial slider, but it’s a nice addition. Below the logo you can find the customer’s testimony. It’s the most important part of the slider, so the text is written using an easy to read font, Roboto. The 18px font size and dark-grey color also helps the legibility. Below the text we placed the customer’s image. This helps making the testimony believable and building trust. The name and occupation of the customer is placed on the bottom.

Text layer

Animations

This carousel slider has a horizontal main animation, so when you switch slide, it will move horizontally. The single switch option is enabled, so you can switch only one slide.

Single switch

Layout

In carousel sliders each slide is next to each other, and you can display more slides at the same time. The layout of the slides is the same: there are layers under each other.

Responsive

By default controls like arrows or bullets are hidden on mobile, but at this slider they are visible. At carousels you can display only whole slides, so you can’t display a part of other slides. If you check it on mobile, you can notice that one slide is visible, but thanks for the controls, your visitor can notice there are more slides.

The Orion Showcase slider is a full width slider which is a typical way to include a slider on your site. Full width sliders are favored because they fill the browser horizontally and look great on any screen size.

The type of the slider is Showcase, which means more slides can display next to each other. The Showcase slider type is rather special because it keeps the active slide in the middle of the slider to help the visitor focus.

This slider type also allows easy navigation. The visitors can click on any visible, but non-active slide to switch to it. Additionally, we added bullets to the slider to make the navigation easier.

Layers

The Orion Showcase template uses basic layers: image, heading and text. Thus, it’s perfect to display testimonials, as they usually display mostly textual content.

Animations

The Showcase slider type has special kind of animations. We used it to scale down the before and after slides and make the active slide stand out more.

Layout

The layout is super basic. By default when you add layers to your slide, they’re put to the middle of the slide. We kept this default behavior as it was matching the look we were after.

Responsive

Smart Slider is a responsive slider and offers many tools to optimize the mobile result. At this template our favorite tool was the Font resizer which helped us optimize the text size for mobile.

Fancy sliders and colorful images might not suit all websites. The Testimonial Showcase slider is a great choice to show customer feedback when you need something simple. The color palette contains mostly light colors, like the gray slider background color.

The button and bullets have the same color, which encourages visitors to take action. They’re both green, which stands out and makes them noticeable.

Bullet control

Layers

Each slide contains 2 heading layers, a text layer, a button layer and an image layer. The image layer is a colored element in the slider, so the visitor can focus on the star rating at the top right corner. This rating shows how satisfied the customer is with the product or service in a visual way. This visual display highlights the rating and helps to build trust.

This slider does not have customer avatar, but it has a nice title instead. This title summarizes the testimonial text and highlights what they like the most. Right next to the customer’s name there’s a date, which shows how up to date their testimony is. This helps showing how trustworthy the product or service is. For instance, if there’s lots of recent good reviews that means the quality is still high.

Animations

The slides switch with a nice animation, which fits the slider perfectly. You can switch a slide with clicking on the previous or the next slides, you can drag with your mouse, or use the bullets on the bottom. At every slide switching you can see that the slides are coming with a horizontal animation.

Showcase animation settings

Layout

What’s the best part of this slider? It displays three slides at a time. The active slide is in the middle. On its right and left side there’s the next and previous slides respectively. This makes it clear for visitors that there are more testimonials to read.

Showcase slider type

Responsive

The mobile behavior of this slider is special. Instead of displaying the whole testimonial text, it shows the title, name, rating and a button. The button has the Read More text on it, which encourages the visitors to go and read the full testimonial. This practice helps to keep the slider height small. Not having to scroll through a long slider improves the user experience. The fraction of the next and previous slides show still, but the bullets are hidden. The mobile visitors can switch slides by swiping left or right.

The Static testimonial slider has a slider background image and a slider background video. You can change them in the General tab of the Slider settings. You can see this background video below all of the slides, so if you switch to another slide, the video will still play. All of the slides have a background color with an opacity, which makes an overlay over the video, so the content is more legible.

Layers

Each slide has only one layer: a heading layer which is a testimonial. The static slide has more layers on it: there is a heading on the top, and below the heading you can see a row with 4 columns. Each column contains an image, and 2 headings. The images are special, because if you click on them, you can navigate to other slides.

Link action on the images

Animations

There isn’t any animation on this slider. However, if you want you can set a main animation or you can add layer animations to the layers.

Layout

The specialty of this testimonial slider is the static overlay which is over the other slides. If you switch a slide, the content on the static slide won’t move, only the other content changes. You can create this kind of slide at the slide creating, you can choose the static overlay there.

Responsive

The static testimonial slider is fully responsive. The row on the static slide wraps after 1 column, so the visitor can see all of the content.

The Testimonial Thumbnail slider is a great example of how the slider background works. The slider background image stays static behind all slides, so only the content moves in front of it. This creates an appealing effect, and makes the slider look fresh. You can change this background image in the General tab of the Slider settings.

Slider background image

Layers

This is a colorful slider: there are two font colors and there are logos which have lots of other shades. There are three layers: a heading, a text and a button. The heading layer has a pinkish color and smaller font size. It displays the name and occupation of the customer. The color brings attention to the text as it’s always important to know who has written the testimony. In the middle of the slide there’s a text layer, with light color and big font size. It contains the actual testimonial text. Thanks to the large font size, it’s easy to read for all audiences. The last layer on the slide is a Read more button. It’s very useful when you have a long text and you only highlight a small part in your testimonial slider.

Animations

The slider navigation is the most special part of the Testimonial Thumbnail slider. There are three ways to do it: using arrows, thumbnails or dragging. The dragging is the most straightforward action, especially for mobile users. When you go to the next or previous slides, you can notice the horizontal animation. This is the main animation of the slider which you can customize in the Animations tab of the Slider settings.

Layout

The slider has a simple layout: there is a slider background image, and the slides are in front of it. Each slide has 3 layers which are under each other. You can see arrows on the left and right, and thumbnails on the bottom.

The arrows are special in this slider. By default there’s a white arrow, which has a light background and a slightly darker border. When you hover the arrow, the background and border color changes. Instead of the opaque white, they now have the pinkish color which the first heading layer has.

The primary feature of the slider is the thumbnails at the bottom. They show the company logo which the customer works for. The thumbnails help with the navigation while showing how many slides there are to see. Of course, you can change them to the user’s avatar. You can change them in the Content tab of the Slide settings.

Changing the thumbnail image

Responsive

The slides were built using default positioning to make them responsive with minimal effort. You can use the text scale option to make you text lower on tablet and mobile. This setting is device specific, so the font size won’t change on other devices.
